Established in 1977, the Services Preparatory Institute (SPI) Aurangabad was created with the objective of inspiring and preparing young aspirants to join the Armed Forces as commissioned officers. Operating under the General Administration Department (Desk-28) of Mantralaya, the institute is headed by a Director of Colonel rank or an equivalent officer.

SPI is often called the β€œcradle of warriors.” It offers a strict and well-structured two-year residential program for students after Class 10. Entry through the UPSC examination after Class 12. Training includes 3 years at NDA followed by 1 year at IMA. This is the most preferred and successful pathway for cadets.
